Handler: Brenda Haile

Brodie’s, story actually begins with the Fort Worth Animal Shelter. He was turned in to them in August of 2010, an owner relinquish and listed as a giant schnauzer. The shelter folks took one look at him and called the Doodle Rescue Collection, a national organization that rescues both golden and labradoodles. They had a foster home in Fort Worth.

It was about this time we had lost our 12 year old wonderful beautiful border collie golden mix, Maggie, she died in her sleep after never having been sick a day in her life. Our other rescue dog, Ref, a part pit bull mix was lost! Maggie had always been alpha and he didn’t even want to go potty without her! He truly did not know which way to turn.

So after searching the web for rescued doodles, my husband, Ref and I piled in the car and headed to Fort Worth. We all loved Brodie from first sight and he came home with us. He was in Heaven with all the smells and country smells we have and one day, just followed those smells outside of our gate (that someone had accidentally left open). He was gone for 24 hours, long miserable and frightening hours for us. We drove, walked, called and cried for those 24 hours. I bargained with St. Francis that if Brodie would come home that we would do something meaningful together. While we were out searching the neighborhood again, Brodie returned home waiting for us as we arrived. He didn’t look like he had had much fun that night and here we now are at Divine Canines ready to begin our next adventure!
