Leila

Handler: Debra Slapak

Leila is one part Border Collie and 99 parts joy. She loves chasing squirrels and birds, and sometimes climbs almost 5 feet up a tree to try to reach one. She rolls over for tummy rubs and shakes with her right hand. She has been homeless and in and out of foster care, and these experiences have made her adventurous and open to meeting everyone she sees. On the day she found her forever family, she chose her mom and dad by standing up and putting her front paws on their shoulders and giving each of them a kiss (and licking a few happy tears from her mom’s cheeks). Once adopted, Leila needed a job to keep her busy–or maybe several! In a few short months, she received her American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen certification and then graduated as a Divine Canines therapy pet. She stays busy polishing her manners for visits, and has taken on several other jobs as well–she walks her mom every morning for a few miles, rain or shine; is assistant chef, food taster and floor clean-up crew in the kitchen; garden digger and back yard helper in the evenings; toe warmer at night and bug chaser 24/7. Her favorites toys are “Blue man,” a rubbery blue toy that has big round ears and “Chip,” a stuffed chipmunk with rope arms that are perfect for tug-o-war. Both of them have loud squeakers that she squeezes when she is happy.
