Handler: Cynthia

In August 2009 a young, female basset hound found herself alone and out of time at a Texas shelter. Luckily, a local basset rescue bailed her out just in time. After being treated for heartworms, this dog, now named Tula, was adopted into a nice family. But that wasn’t her happy ending. After only three days, that family returned Tula, saying that she was “unmanageable.”

One week later, a depressed Tula found herself at an adoption event when she met a nice human in search of a hound companion. The two decided to take a chance on each other and Tula, renamed Bailey, had found her forever home.

With hard work, patience, and lots of yummy treats, Bailey and her human worked their way through beginner and advanced obedience courses to become a therapy dog team with Divine Canines. Bailey visits hospitals, children’s shelters, nursing homes, and treatment centers bringing love and happiness to children, the elderly, wounded warriors, veterans, and people in need.

Bailey has earned her Canine Good Citizen, Therapy Dog, and Therapy Dog Advanced titles from the American Kennel Club (AKC). In 2014 Austin Fit Magazine named her one of Austin’s Fittest Dogs and she was honored by the AKC Humane Fund with an ACE (Awards for Canine Excellence) Award in the Therapy Dog Category, a recognition given to only six dogs nationwide. Most recently she appeared in a national ad campaign for a major dog food company.
